IU Cancels September Concert Due to Health Concerns

Singer IU has announced the cancellation of her upcoming concert due to health issues.

On July 20th, IU shared a heartfelt message with fans through her official communication platform. "It's been a while since I've reached out like this," she began. The K-pop star went on to describe her recent activities, saying, "I've been busy preparing new music, gearing up for performances, shooting commercials, and working out. Before I knew it, two months had flown by since my birthday."

Addressing a matter that had been weighing on her mind, IU expressed, "I hate to worry my fans, UAENA, but I need to share some unfortunate news. To cut to the chase, I won't be able to proceed with the concert planned for this September at Goyang Stadium."

She elaborated on her health situation, stating, "My chronic ear condition has recently worsened. While I've been trying to manage it, environmental factors like weather seem to play a role. I think I may have pushed myself too hard these past few years, focusing on work without properly considering my health."

IU further detailed her symptoms: "My ear condition has always been unpredictable, but lately, the symptoms have been persisting day and night for days on end. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find my vocal sweet spot when singing."

On a positive note, IU confirmed that her album production was completed without major setbacks. However, she explained, "While I've learned to live with this condition over the years without it severely impacting my daily life, medical experts have advised that singing directly affects my ear health. Unlike studio recordings, they've cautioned that performing in concerts - which involve more physical exertion and sweating - would be inadvisable for the time being."

Expressing deep regret, IU said, "I'm truly sorry for disappointing everyone who was looking forward to the concert. I feel terrible that my health issues have disrupted our plans for the latter half of 2023." She concluded on an optimistic note, assuring fans, "The new album is fantastic and diverse. While some activities and performances befitting a full album release will be postponed by a few months, they're not being cancelled altogether."

This news comes on the heels of IU's recent announcement of her split from actor Lee Jong-suk after four years of dating.
