How 황치훈’s Battle with Brain Hemorrhage Changed Lives: A Tribute to a Star
Beloved Actor and Singer Hwang Chi-hoon: A Decade-Long Battle Ends

Nine years have passed since the untimely departure of Hwang Chi-hoon, affectionately known as "Mr. Tiger," who captivated audiences as both an actor and singer.
Hwang's life came to a tragic end on October 16, 2017, following a prolonged struggle with a brain hemorrhage. His health ordeal began in June 2007 when he suddenly collapsed after complaining of severe headaches. Despite battling the condition for nearly a decade, Hwang never fully recovered and passed away at the young age of 46.
A Seoul native born in 1971, Hwang made his acting debut at just three years old in the 1974 KBS drama "Hwang Hee Jeong Seung." His breakthrough came with the 1980 MBC youth drama "Mr. Tiger," which skyrocketed his popularity. Hwang further cemented his status in the entertainment industry with his portrayal of King Gwanghae in the 1985 historical drama "The 500 Years of the Joseon Dynasty."
Hwang's talents extended beyond acting into the realm of music. He lent his voice to the theme song of the 1981 MBC animation "Heckle and Jeckle," and made his official singing debut in 1988 with "You in My Memories." That same year, he clinched the "Rookie of the Year" award at the KBS Music Awards. Hwang went on to release his second and third albums in 1992 and 1998, respectively.
In 1996, Hwang's musical career reached new heights when he performed "Until I Meet You" and "Only You" for the soundtrack of the popular KBS2 weekend drama "First Love." His compositional skills also came to the fore in 1999 when he penned "Your Beginning" for Kim Bum-soo's debut album.
Despite his earlier success, Hwang later stepped away from the limelight, taking on various jobs including roles at an advertising agency and in e-commerce to make ends meet. In 2005, he transitioned to a sales position and tied the knot, welcoming a daughter the following year. Tragically, Hwang's life took a devastating turn in June 2007 when he suffered a brain hemorrhage, sending shockwaves through both the entertainment industry and his fan base.
In the wake of his debilitating condition, Hwang's wife remained a pillar of strength, tirelessly caring for him despite the challenging circumstances. In 2012, KBS2's "Leisurely Time" offered a glimpse into Hwang's ongoing health struggles, capturing a poignant moment when he appeared to respond to words from his former co-star, Lee Junho.
