BOYNEXTDOOR's Myung Jae-hyun Apologizes for Comments on Lee Kwang-soo's Fan Engagement

Myung Jae-hyun, a member of the K-pop group BOYNEXTDOOR, has issued an apology following controversial remarks about actor Lee Kwang-soo's fan interaction skills.
During a live stream on a fan communication platform on the 21st, Myung addressed his earlier comments. "I considered staying silent, worried about causing further trouble for my senior," he admitted. "I realize now that I made a mistake."
Clarifying his intentions, Myung explained, "I meant to express my admiration for Lee Kwang-soo's communication style and my desire to learn from it. Unfortunately, I chose my words poorly." He pledged to be more mindful in the future, adding, "It's important to apologize when you've done something wrong."
The controversy erupted on the 20th when Myung, while chatting with fans, shared an anecdote about finding his groupmate Taesan's name on his subscription list. He then referenced Lee Kwang-soo's fan engagement platform, stating, "His ability to attract followers is incredible. It's truly a talent." Myung added, "I find it challenging since I don't view fans as customers."
Netizens quickly criticized Myung's remarks as disrespectful to Lee, a senior in the entertainment industry. Some interpreted his comments as implying that Lee sees fans as mere customers, while Myung does not. Others defended Myung, suggesting he simply misspoke while trying to compliment Lee. They argued that viewing platform users as customers isn't inherently problematic for a paid service.
Lee Kwang-soo has been making waves since launching his fan communication platform on the 1st. His constant engagement with fans has earned him the nickname "Communication King."
